“Living at The Glenview is a gift I give my children.” Ann Johnson’s Story

Living at The Glenview means Ann Johnson’s days are busy in the best way. Her calendar stays full with exercise classes, bridge and mahjongg games, and activities six days a week. She serves on the Landscape Committee and even created a butterfly garden for everyone to enjoy. “I love living here,” said Ann. “Our pool is just beautiful. The food is exceptional. The staff and residents are all so kind. I have my privacy, but I also have friends right outside my door.”

A busy entrepreneur who owned Knuth’s Shoe Store in Cleveland for decades, Ann is also a mother of five, stepmother to five more, grandmother to 18, and great-grandmother to three, and was happily married to her husband, Tom, for 40 wonderful years. When she chose to move to The Glenview in 2019, it wasn’t out of necessity — it was with intention.

“I moved here because I wanted to keep enjoying my life,” said Ann. “It feels like living in a boutique hotel with a country club lifestyle — surrounded by people who treat me like family.”

For her children, that decision brought peace of mind. “Living 1,100 miles away in Cleveland, we worried about her,” said her daughter, Chrissy Sparrow. “You feel helpless being far away.”

“I didn’t want my kids to worry,” said Ann. “Living here is a gift we give our children.”

That reassurance was clear during a hurricane that left the area without power for three days. “The staff moved in and slept on cots to provide round-the-clock care,” said Chrissy. “They moved every resident’s car to higher ground and delivered meals to each home. My mom wasn’t just safe — she was truly cared for.”

Ann felt secure throughout the storm. “The staff checked on us constantly,” said Ann. “The Glenview was the safest place I could be.”

That sense of security extends beyond storm season. When Chrissy recently had foot surgery, she chose to rest up at The Glenview in her mom’s home. “There were no stairs, and meals were handled,” said Chrissy. “I experienced firsthand why Mom feels so secure here. I don’t spend my time wondering if she’s okay anymore — I know she is.”

For Ann, that peace of mind — for her children and for herself — is everything. “That’s the greatest comfort,” said Ann. “My family doesn’t worry, and I’m able to truly enjoy my life in the Pelican Bay neighborhood I’ve always loved. It’s a gift for all of us!”
