“I’m Glad I Moved When I Did”: Maria Garrido’s Glenview Story
Maria Garrido has never been afraid to make a big decision at the right moment. Born in Seville, Spain, she went on to live in Madrid, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico before settling in the United States with her family. Today, at 90 years old, she says one of the smartest moves she’s ever made was choosing The Glenview at Pelican Bay — and moving there at exactly the right time. “I’m so glad I moved here when I did,” she said. “It made all the difference.”
Choosing Independence at the Right Time
With knee surgery on the horizon, Maria made the decision that would set the tone for her Glenview experience: she wanted to be settled in her new home first. “I told my orthopedic surgeon I wasn’t going to have the surgery until I moved.” That instinct paid off. When a second knee surgery — and later, a recovery from a fall — required extra support, Maria turned to Premier Place, The Glenview’s on-site short-term rehabilitation center, to regain her strength. “Premier Place helped me get back on my feet and back home quickly. I felt cared for every step of the way.”
Today, Maria is thriving — proof that having the right support close at hand makes all the difference in aging vibrantly and independently.
A Home That Feels Like Family
Ask Maria what she loves most about The Glenview, and she doesn’t hesitate. “It’s more like a family here. You know everybody.” With just 180 residents, she’s found a community that feels personal and warm rather than large and anonymous. “It’s never crowded, and there’s always someone new to meet.”
She’s equally as enthusiastic about the dining. “The food here is wonderful. I don’t want to admit it, but I think I’ve gained 8 pounds since I moved here!”
Still Close to Everything Maria Loves
Maria’s home at The Glenview keeps her connected to the coastal lifestyle she’s always cherished. “From here, I can see the beach. The Gulf is still just a short walk away. And my sister, Isabel, lives nearby in Pelican Bay, so we are just a few minutes apart.”
Looking back on her time at The Glenview, Maria’s outlook is simple and joyful. “This has been a wonderful decision. I’m very happy here.”
